Gupshup is back!

We know you all have been missing "Daily Mukhwaak" alerts on your mobile. It's not that we have been not sending the SMS but due to technical issues and increased SMS costs you were not able to receive them on your mobiles.

If you check our GupShup blog, you can see our regular posts but they couldn't reach you because of the issue mentioned above.

But, the new GupShup app for Android phones enables you to get connected again to the "Daily Hukumnama" service. You will get the daily morning Mukhwaak from Sri Darbar Sahib on mobile even if you are on DND service (because this app doesn't use SMS).

All you need is an Android phone and an internet package on your mobile.

Download the app now!

Who is Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana?

Are you still wondering who is Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana? Read on...

Bhai Sahib Balwant Singh, a constable, was a close friend of Shaheed Dilawar Singh, a serving police officer in the Punjab Police who on 31 August, 1995 assissinated the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh.

CM Beant Singh’s regime carried brutal and mass level killings of civilian Sikh population of Punjab. Bhai Dilawar Singh carried out the blast and died during the incident. Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, Bhai Paramjeet Singh Bheora and Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara are the prominent among those charged for assassinating CM Beant Singh.

Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana had “openly confessed” an involvement and strongly expressed no faith in Indian judiciary. He refused to defend himself in the court and accepted the sentence. He accused Indian courts for applying dual standards of law and accused Indian system for shielding culprits of Sikh genocide 1984.

In his will, Bhai Balwant Singh expressed desire that his eyes should be transplanted to Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, visually impaired Bhai Lakhwinder Singh.

He was recently blessed with Amrit, where an Amrit Sanchar was especially organised for Bhai Sahib by the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.

On March 31st, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana is set to be  executed in Punjab for his involvement in the assassination of former chief minister of Punjab, Beant Singh.  It will be the first execution in Punjab’s history in 24 years.

Chief minister Beant Singh was involved with carrying out brutal and mass killings of Sikhs in Punjab.  He is widely held responsible by many Sikhs for ordering the kidnap, torture and death of many young Sikh men.  A report by Amnesty International can be found below.

Balwant Singh Rajoana has confessed his involvement in the assassination.  He’s accepted the sentence without protest,  identifying a lack of faith in the Indian judiciary system and accusing Indian courts for applying dual standards of law.

The Indian judiciary system is one that has continued to protect the culprits of the mass killings of Sikhs.  In his will Balwant Singh announced his wish to donate his eyes and other body parts after his death, in particular, he expressed his desire that his eyes should be transplanted to Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, visually impaired Bhai Lakhwinder Singh.  An English translation of his living will can be found below.

Revealed – The Golden Temple : A documentary by Discovery Channel

‘Revealed – The Golden Temple’ is a never-before-seen tableau of Sikhism’s sacred sanctum set up through first hand accounts of its primary custodians.

It is a tapestry of personal quests interwoven with ‘revealed’ moments never captured before on film: a successful NRI returns to reconnect with his heritage and in return offers his Guru a 21st century solution to reaching out to the global faithful.

Young men in seminaries choose the road less taken, dedicating themselves to the Guru while an ageing musician strives to keep his ancestral heritage alive by carrying forward the Guru’s compositions. Spiritual seekers from far & wide undergo the ancient baptism ritual of Amritsanchar reborn in the Guru’s home. Meanwhile, Sikh students learn what it takes to defend their faith against all odds.

Through it all, the viewer stays at the side of the temple’s most important resident, Sikhism’s 11th guru - the Guru Granth Sahib - from its pre-dawn waking moment to the hour of its retirement. As everything & everyone in the sanctum revolves around the Guru, so does the ultimate cinematic experience of the Sri Harmandar Sahib – ‘Revealed: The Golden Temple’.

This one hour special was shown on Discovery Channel on Nov 9 and Nov 10, 2011 multiple times a day.

You can now watch the recordings of the show in 5 parts as below:

A very nice collection of short stories equally liked by teenagers and youth

As a habit I have given the hard copy of this book to all my Sikh juniors in college and to any young Sikh with whom I came into contact. The book explains in very simple manner the everyday questions that a Sikh youth encounters .Today while re-reading from the book I thought why not create a good soft copy and upload it on scribd so i created this PDF .Any suggestion on further improvement are welcomed .

The author is Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh USA (PhD Ohio State University USA, former Professor and dean Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana).

I had the opportunity to meet the author who in spite of being above 70 years now , interacts with youth with unparalleled zeal.
